With the inauguration and inaugural ball only happening last week, I had to comment on Michelle Obama’s fashion.  It is important for a girl in this day and age to not only be fashion savvy, but to also be aware of what is going on in politics.  Hopefully you all know that President Barack Obama’s inauguration was Monday January 21, which also happened to be Martin Luther King Jr. day, (pretty cool in my opinion).  Anyway, of course Michelle as the First Lady had to look good and boy did she not disappoint.   During the ceremony Michelle Obama wore a navy-silk, checkered-patterned coat and dress by designer Thom Browne.  The outfit was completed with a jeweled J-Crew sash worn as a belt that is part of J.Crew’s bridal collection and retails for $265.  The belt will now unfortunately be retired.  Jenna Lyons, the creative director of J. Crew, stated, “We won’t rerun that.  She did her own thing to that, and out of respect, we’ll let her have that moment.”  J-Crew is a brand that Michelle constantly goes to over and over again for classic sweater and skirt sets.

As for the inaugural ball, four years ago, she wowed in a one shoulder ivory Jason Wu gown.  Now, four years later, she chose Jason Wu again. This time, however, she opted on a vibrant, bright, red gown of velvet and chiffon.  The dress was stunning and made a statement that said I’m here to stay…well at least for the next four years anyway.
