Galia Slayen of Hamilton College built this “real life” sized Barbie for her schools National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (NEDAW). I would say this girl really got her message across. A Barbie built to human size would have the following measurements: about 6’ tall, 39″ bust, 18″ waist, and 33″ hips.

The “life-sized” Barbie was built using wood, nails, chicken wire, paper maché and a life size Barbie head from Toys R Us. Slayen made the Barbie as a visual to raise awareness about body image issues and eating disorders back in 2007. Since then, this figure has grabbed the attention of high school and college students, and now the media. Slayens story and efforts were featured in the Huffington Post and this image has been blogged on Tumblr by thousands of users. (more…)
