The Little Black Dress.  Essential to the completion of every girl’s wardrobe. First written into the rules of fashion by Coco Chanel in the 1920’s the LBD quickly vanquished the closets filled with frilly embellished gowns.

Vogue published a photograph of Chanel’s short simple black dress, comparing it to the Model T—‘Chanel’s Ford’ they wrote.  Just like the car, the dress was also a symbol of simple elegance accessible to all social classes.  The LBD was the uniform for all women of taste.

Karl Lagerfeld, the brain behind Chanel, and Carine Roitfeld, previous editor of Vogue Paris, are focused on The Little Black Jacket.  Lagerfeld and Roitfeld are publishing “The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited” which is due to release later this summer.  The book features famous personalities from Sarah Jessica Parker and Dakota Fanning to Elizabeth Olsen and Yoko Ono donning the LBJ.

Although it may not steal the spotlight it is very much an equal of the LBD.  Relied upon like a solid pair of jeans or the perfect leather boots the Little Black Jacket must have a place in your closet.
