If there was ever a man who truly had a way with words, it was Oscar Wilde. Quick, witty, intelligent and sometimes cutting, he has been quoted countless times since his unfortunate death in Paris.

The latest news of this “Dublin playwright” was published the week of the 111th anniversary (Nov. 30, 2011) of his death. Fans will no longer be able to shower his gravestone with kisses. It has been a tradition for over a decade for fans to don his or her favorite shade of red or pink lipstick and (literally) kiss Wilde’s grave.

After its latest renovations, the layers of lipstick graffiti have been scrubbed clean and there is now a “glass enclosure to preclude future visitors from degrading the stone.” The tradition of kissing his grave began after a previous renovation had been done due to “decades of graffiti.” At the time, Wilde’s descendants were able to put somewhat of a stop to the graffiti by having the tombstone listed “a historical monument.”

You know firsthand how much makeup you put on your face every day. For some of us, it isn’t very much, but for others–well, let’s just say the “gotta put my face on” expression wouldn’t still be an expression but rather, the scary reality. For this video, foundation, eyeshadow, blush and lipstick were all applied to Belgian model Hannelore Knuts’ face 365 times to represent an entire year’s worth of makeup.

The whole process took nine hours, three lipsticks, seven bottles of foundation, and two bottles each of cream blush and eyeshadow (228 mL, or 7.7 fl. oz.). Watch this video and post your opinion. Does this have any effect on how you’re going to put your makeup on this morning? Will you at all?

Ironically enough, the makeup makes her look like an old woman at the end.

Bright lipstick colors are always in, especially during the spring and summer months. A polished pout is an eye popper no matter what you’re wearing. The only problem is getting the color to actually stay on. Chances are if you eat, talk, or drink, you can say bye-bye to long-lasting color. However, there are a couple of ways to prevent your color from disappearing.
1. Always moisturize your lips with lip balm or vaseline.
2. Find lip liner the shade of your natural color.
3. Apply lip primer.
By following these three rules, you can create a waxy layer that the lipstick can and will grab onto. And if you want, you can even put on lip stain after applying your shade to ensure an even longer-lasting coat. Pucker up pretty, cause’ your polished pout is here to stay.

It’s Old Hick Herself!

It’s Old Hick Herself!

Here in D.C., the talk of the town never veers too far from analyzing the facebook musings of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. In the ranking of issues of interest, it goes something like: re-election, re-election, Sarah Palin’s facebook, re-election, sex. And so, I shall contribute and propose a possible senario: Sarah Palin as Andrew Jackson.

In what respect, Kevin? Mini-history: Andrew Jackson’s “outsider” candidacy is largely credited with super-charging the Democratic Party by winning the presidency with grassroots popular support arising from widespread populist discontent over the powers that be. Jackson was the anti-elitist candidate. Palin may not have led troops against the British — but she’s sparking populist tea parties left and (especially) right. (more…)
