Most of us can relate to the feeling of being too fat, overweight and self-conscious about our body image. In today’s society, there is no greater pressure on females than to have the “perfect body” that we see in movies, magazines and advertisements. Everywhere we look, we cannot escape the message depicted from society to fit into those size 0 jeans.

For those of us who struggle to find beauty within ourselves, some must turn to those who can find it, even when you think you can’t. Jennifer Livingston, an anchor for La Crosse, Wisconsin, was one of those women.

Jennifer received an email from a local viewer complaining about her weight. The perpetrator behind this email wrote hurtful comments regarding Jennifer’s weight, her incapability to be a role model for young girls, and that if she wants to fulfill her public duty, she will learn to present and promote a healthier lifestyle than the one she chooses now.

Wow. No other words come to mind except wow. What a hurtful, insensitive, rude, and offensive email this person put together to bash this woman’s appearance. It is simply unimaginable that not only do women find themselves being criticized by the media, but now their peers? The only way to come back at these bullies is to stand up to them, and that is just what Jennifer did. As she laughed it off and fought back with her own words, she set an example for so girls and women across the world to stand up for yourself. Don’t let a bully put you down, if anything, they should be disappointed in themselves for hurting someone the way this bully did to Jennifer.

Not everyone is going to be a skinny model, and the sad reality is, most people think that’s how our society should be.

It is all of our jobs to make sure that we stop these incidents from happening again. At the end of Jennifer’s segment she concluded, “We are better than that bully. We are better than this email. We are better than the bullies that would try to take us down.”

You go girl.
