Since it’s post Spring Break, we all know that tests and papers are flying towards us. Well at least for me they are. With this, comes studying. We all love studying right? Especially in 80 degree weather…
As students, we can’t really avoid studying. It comes with the job unfortunately. However, we can add some tunes to this god-awful study session and lighten the mood a little bit. For me, I have to study with music on. I don’t know why but it keeps my focus for hours on end and I surprisingly get shit done. For others, music is just another procrastinating tool.
At Bradley University, Claire Etaugh and David Michals looked at different studies on music and the prevalence within students studying methods. “Previous studies of the effects of music on performance have yielded mixed results.
Popular music has been found adversely to affect reading-test perform- ance of eighth graders (Fogelson, 1973) and quantitative test performance of eleventh graders (Williams, 1961). On the other hand, Colbert (1961) re- ported that musical stimulation improved performance of some college students on certain recall tasks, while Wolf and Weiner (1972) found that rock music did not impair college students’ performance on arithmetic problems.”
I see nothing wrong with listening to music while studying because, hey, lets face it, whatever gets the job done right?
So I’ve decided to let you in on what I listen to when I study. It obviously varies with my mood and what I’m studying but here is a playlist I use frequently. ENJOY!
