Alright, ladies you know it and I know it. Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition is out on the stands. That means the official countdown to spring break has begun. Kate Upton plastered on the cover in a barely there bikini is more than enough motivation to get to the gym. And apparently everyone’s got the same idea because I can barely get a treadmill. While everyone’s working on their spring break body… the real question is what are you going to wear?
Well, one of the hottest trends in swimwear is metallic. In jewel and silver tones this look is totally fresh and modern. Norma Kamali is just one designer who has incorporated this trend in her line. Kamali mixes metallics with mesh panels for a contemporary feel.
High waisted is another high fashion style that is popping up everywhere. Mara Hoffman’s high waisted criss cross side bottom puts a new spin on the retro style. Although not optimal for tanning, this style is for the fashion forward.
Bikinis in scarf prints are a softer beach trend. Luxe by Lisa Vogel has some of the cutest prints. From peachy yellows to violet blues the paisley prints are perfect. The subtle details like beading on the straps and small tassel ties give her line an Indian feel.
Another hot style still popular is the cutout. Last year one-piece cut outs were everywhere. It’s an easy way to still look sexy at the beach without wearing an itty-bitty bikini. Unlike last years clean cutout suits, this year it’s all in the details. Mara Hoffman once again is a hit on the runway. Her black crochet cutout one-piece is sultry and elegant.
Where to get these runway inspired trends? One of my favorite places to shop for swimwear is Victoria’s Secret. But obviously that can start to add up. So, I go and hit up the racks at Target. They have plenty of cut-out and scarf print inspired bathing suits. Most recently Jason Wu designed an affordable collection of women’s wear and handbags, so I can’t wait to see the new swimsuits they have.
