Last year was the season of wild manicure. You probably could have pointed out a rainbow neon polish just by walking across campus. But 2012 is a different story – it’s all about being bold and creative. I’ve seen lace nails, newspaper nails, marble nails and even ‘90s crackle polish has come back with a vengeance.
One of the most popular trends I’ve seen is painting your ring finger a lighter shade than the rest of your nails. One girl I spotted took this trend and made it her own. She’s ready in the case that someone proposes. On the other hand, her middle finger is highlighted for anyone who decides to piss her off. This statement manicure reminds me of the trends seen on the runway this spring.
So many designers chose to go with bold simplicity. Karen Walker sent her models out in a chartreuse color, which is subtle compared to last year’s wild trend but still outrageous in the right light. Pamela Love chose reverse French manicures, a dramatic visual in deep plum and lilac. Mirroring the recent ombre hair color trend, Jen Kao sent her models down the runway with an ombre manicure. This look is subtle and one of my favorites.
Other trends emerging seem to be on the opposite end of the color spectrum. Many designers such as Zac Posen, VPL and Tory Burch are outfitting their models in lady-like nude hues. I’d say it sounds perfect for spring.
