This week, Frida Giannini, creative director of Gucci, and Patrizio di Marco, chief executive of Gucci, announced that they are in a relationship. Giannini has been at Gucci since 2002 and became head designer following Tom Ford’s departure. In 2006, she became creative director, therefore, gaining absolute authority over all Gucci merchandise. Patrizio arrived at Gucci in January 2009.

The pair announced they have been together since June 2009 when their relationship changed from friendship into romance on a trip to China. They have kept the relationship under wraps to the public while PPR luxury group head François Pinault was told at the very beginning.

The two say their relationship is very serious and they have been nervous to announce it to company shareholders. Yet, their performance at the brand is unquestionably professional with PPR reporting 21 percent sales increase at Gucci this year. Going public this week was to allow for full transparency considering most employees at Gucci already knew.

Hopefully their romance continues to produce positive results, cause we all know what nasty breakups can do to a business.
