How-To: Newspaper Nails

In the spirit of fall and the deep dark colors coming out from OPI, I thought I’d share a little “how-to” for the ladies who are looking for a little something different than the deep red all your friends are wearing.

What You’ll Need:

  • shot glass
  • Rubbing alcohol or vodka
  • 10 strips of newspaper (big enough to cover each nail)
  • Any light-colored nail polish (I love light green or cream)
  • Clear top coat polish

Step One: Polish your nail with the light-colored nail polish. You might need a couple coats. Once finished, you absolutely need to make sure your nails are completely dry, or else this won’t work. (It could take, at most, 20 minutes)

Step Two: Once your nails are 100 percent dry, pour the rubbing alcohol or vodka in your shot glass (enough to cover each nail). Place one nail in the shot glass, making sure you get it really wet.

Step Three: Take one of your newspaper strips and place it on top of your nail, and hold it there for 30 seconds. Do not move or slide the strip of newspaper; keep it pressed down firmly.

Step Four: Carefully remove the strip of newspaper, and there you have it: the daily news on your beautifully manicured nail. Once dry, paint over it with your clear top coat and repeat the whole cycle with the rest of your nails.
