A Major Nintendon’t in the Industry

At the E3 Conference in Los Angeles, there were some amazing announcements of new games and consoles.  One of the biggest announcements during the conference was Nintendo’s new console: Wii U. Nintendo’s presentation made the Wii U look fun, entertaining and graphically stunning; or did it?

In a later interview with Game Trailers, Nintendo of America’s president, Reggie Fils-Aime, openly admitted to using game-play footage from the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  He believes the graphics on the Wii U will be in 1080p and look similar or even better than those on the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3.

Let’s be honest, it’s one thing to promise that your product will be just as good or better than a competitor’s. However, it’s an entirely different thing when you are using your competitor’s current product as an example during a press conference at arguably the biggest convention for your industry.  That practice isn’t just a Nintendon’t in the video game industry, it’s a Nintendon’t in any industry. If you want to announce a new product to build up hype, by all means, do it.  But you should probably wait until you have some more concrete evidence of what the product is going to look like before you show anything off.
