Red Sole Debacle

Yves Saint Laurent made a shoe with a red sole. This offense landed them a lawsuit by the creator of the red sole, the shoe, shoe soles, and feet.

Christian Louboutin is suing YSL for having the audacity to make a pump with a red sole. The red sole is considered the Louboutin trademark. Many people can only distinguish the brand because of the famous red soles. For this reason, the company feels that YSL is infringing on their territory and creating confusion for the consumer.

The suit has been filed, now we wait and see whom the courts will side with.

What’s interesting is that Louboutin does not realize that anyone who purchases YSL knows they are purchasing YSL. No one who pays attention to things like the color of a sole would ever mistake the two brands. As for the shape of the shoe itself, it looks nothing like a Louboutin, and anyone who does not know that should not be buying Louboutins in the first place.

This whole debacle reminds me of when Spike Lee sued Spike TV for using the name ‘Spike’. Everyone needs to stop being so dramatic and self-important. Just chill.
