Discounts are a wonderful thing, especially when they go to charity. In light of the recent events in Japan, the video game company Capcom discounted many of their iPhone games to $0.99 and promised to donate the proceeds to their home country. Being the generous fellow that I am, and because I love fighting games, I jumped on this opportunity to buy Street Fighter IV for my iPhone. So put down your Xbox controllers and pick up your iPhones, because I’m here to give you Jerks my full review of Street Fighter IV for the iPhone.

First things first, the character list is great and has most of your favorites from Street Fighter II. However, it leaves out my favorite character, Akuma, but still retains classics like Ryu, Chun-Li, and Guile. The controls are surprisingly good, to be honest. Yes, they’re still a little clunky compared to a real controller, but what can you do. There’s a virtual joystick and four virtual buttons at the bottom of the touch screen (Punch, Kick, Special, and Focus). It takes a little while to get the hang of, but once you do, it’s really not that bad.

The only complaints I have about Street Fighter IV are the winning poses and character “catch phrases”. Every time you win with your character of choice, they’ll pose the same way and say the same thing every time. This gets pretty stale quickly, but it doesn’t completely take away from the game.

While Street Fighter IV is back at its regular $4.99 price, I would still recommend it if you love fighters, have an iPhone, and are looking for another casual game. If you want a more serious fighting game however, I would highly recommend Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
