If you don’t know who Tim Schafer is, or the games he’s made, I suppose that’s acceptable. However, if you don’t know what Sesame Street is, that’s sad. You have clearly missed out on a fantastic childhood filled with Oscar, Elmo, Big Bird, and the rest of the crew.
That aside, Tim Schafer, the genius behind the Monkey Island series, Grim Fandango, and Psychonauts, has announced that he will develop a Sesame Street video game for the Xbox 360.
Currently known as Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster, the game will feature classic characters such as Elmo and Cookie Monster. In addition, Tim Schafer plans to utilize the Kinect technology to help create an interactive “storybook” style gameplay.
I may be a little biased here, but I think that everything that’s come out of the mind of Tim Schafer is genius. Despite that, some of his games have had some mature content, so I’m a little worried about what Tim might bring to the table here (see Grim Fandango and Brutal Legend). But based on his past successes though, I am confident that Tim Schafer will hit home rather than scare kids and their families.
Depending on how the game looks, I may decide to give it a shot to re-live my childhood and experience another Tim Schafer game. Expect Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster to hit the shelves in the fourth quarter of this year (IGN).
