Sony’s Next Combatant in the Handheld War

In case you’ve been trapped in a pit, or had no reason to pay attention, Sony has recently revealed its next handheld gaming system.  The only problem is that they still haven’t told us some key information, namely, price.

Sure the NGP (next generation portable), as Sony had codenamed it, looks great, but judging by the specs on this beast and it seems like if you aren’t loaded, or willing to incur massive debt, you’ll be left out in the cold.

Sporting some pretty powerful tech, people are likely to notice the five inch multi-touch OLED screen, front and rear facing cameras, dual analog sticks, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, and GPS connectivity; and perhaps the TOUCHSCREEN ON THE BACK!

That’s right, this piece of hardware has managed to add controls and functionality to apparently every surface.  Honestly, the guys at Penny Arcade nailed it in their strip on the matter.

All I can say at this point is that there’s probably going to be an interesting (read: very one sided) battle between the NGP and the soon to be released, likely favorite, Nintendo 3DS (priced at $249.99).  [Joystiq]
