Has Lady Gaga gone completely gaga?

The “Egg Woman” performed her much-anticipated new single “Born This Way” at the 53rd Annual Grammys Sunday night. She emerged from an egg/pod exclaiming that she had been “born this way.” Although the song is especially catchy and cool, Gaga’s performance was most definitely NOT!

She pounced on stage as if a minister had exorcised demons from her body. But I guess the alien-like gestures were the point?

Midway through the performance, we received a Gaga interlude on an organ which surfaced the stage floor. She performed a “horror-movie-like spin on the notes” then belted out the rest of the song. At the end of her performance, her dancers formed a circle around her and threw their hands in the air to pay respect to all the Little Monsters watching from home.

At the end of the night, Gaga won Best Short Form Music Video and the award for best Pop Vocal Album for Fame Monster!

“I need to say thank you tonight to Whitney Houston. I wanted to thank Whitney because when I wrote ‘Born This Way,’ I imagined she was singing it because I wasn’t secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar. So Whitney, I imagined you were singing ‘Born This Way’ when I wrote it. Thank you.”

Seriously, why would she think of Whitney Houston?! Seems like a lot is going on in Gaga’s head…
