So I’m sure you’ve all seen the fckh8 video that’s gone viral via Facebook.
Between this new campaign, the tragic teenage suicides, Paladino’s remarks, the order for the military to stop discharging gays under don’t ask don’t tell, and the attacks on college senior Chris Armstrong by the assistant attorney general of the state of Michigan, there’s been a lot of gay press recently.
And let’s be honest: Gays and Glitz go together like Aida and Radames. (If you didn’t get that reference, I’m just saying that they’re in love.) I’d therefore like to introduce an organization that I am quite fond of called Broadway Impact.
Their website states:
“We are a community of actors, directors, stage managers, fans, producers — pretty much anyone who has ever seen, been in or worked on a Broadway show — united by the simple belief that anyone who wants to should be able to get married.”
They have held various events to raise awareness and fundraise for the cause of marriage equality. They’ve rented busses to take New Yorkers to DC to march for the cause and had fundraising concerts. Thanks to Broadway Impact I got to see my fiancé, Jason Mraz, performing live with my other idol Gavin Creel who starred in Hair and co-found this organization. Yeah, it was awesome.
The next big event coming up from Broadway Impact is the 2010 ING NYC Marathon on November 7. If you have the means and want to support the cause, you can sponsor the Broadway Impact team on this 26.2 mile run by donating.
