There will always be a runner-up in advertising. Pepsi will never win the top spot from Coke. iPods are preferred over other music devices. And since Facebook showed up, Myspace seems archaic. But the site hasn’t given up; it’s enticing our middle school, sentimental sides with a new logo.
The new Myspace profile is a space where people can become whoever they want to be. The space in the logo is meant for artwork or images from users; they can fill it to best represent them. (Or they can mess with it, like Gawker.)
The idea is creative, but mostly it’s a few years too late to sway anyone, even if they do miss zany profile backgrounds and changing music every six hours.

You spend 30 minutes on your nails. You think they’re dry, and then screw them up. I can’t stand it! You take the a chance only to realize later that your ring finger is a smudged disaster. Here’s the trick to avoid polish woes: If you think your nails are dry, touch your pinky nails together. If the polish doesn’t grab, then you’re all set. Don’t forget to do this ladies; it will save time and frustration and your nails will be gorg!

This fall, journalists have been fucking up. I mean royally fucking up. Newscasters are being fired and suspended left and right (e.g. Rick Sanchez). The latest culprit is MSNBC’s liberal media darling, Keith Olbermann.
The host of Countdown with Keith Olbermann was suspended indefinitely without pay due to his monetary campaign contributions to three Democratic candidates. MSNBC President Phil Griffin released the following statement: “I became aware of Keith’s political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay.”
Olbermann told politico.com that he made the maximum legal donations of 2,400 dollars to the campaigns of Arizona representatives Raul M. Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords and Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway.
MSNBC’s current policy requires that all staff members receive permission to make contributions to political parties, something Olbermann failed to do. Political contributions are highly discouraged because they diminish trust in the journalists covering the news.
Olbermann has famously said that he does not vote as a symbolic gesture to journalistic objectivity. But giving money to three Democratic candidates makes it pretty easy to see where his support lies. While I do not necessarily have a problem with what Olbermann did, I am happy that MSNBC decided to reprimand him for his actions.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Olbermann’s suspension lasted two days. Crack that whip, MSNBC.

Every morning, my schedule is pretty much the same step-by-step process: alarm, bathroom, food, clothes, vitamins, sprint to bus. Pretty typical. I keep my vitamins next to the toaster, which is near the coffeemaker, which is an arm’s length away from the fridge where I keep my creamer. It’s all very calculated.
But according to a new study, keeping vitamins toaster-side may not be the best idea. Researchers found that vitamin C, vitamin B, and other water-soluble vitamins can degrade in humid environments, most often the bathroom but sometimes the kitchen as well.
The solution? Keep your vitamins in your bedroom. This changes my whole morning game plan, but at least I’ll get all my nutrients.

I’ll be honest; I’m not sure whether I should be impressed or terrified.
Check out Broadway.com’s recent feature on super fan Stewart Yu. I had seen him before because he tags videos of himself performing/lip-syncing Next to Normal scenes as Alice Ripley on Facebook.
I must admit the mash-up is pretty clever. Definitely wouldn’t have thought of that on my own. The “Finale B” video, though, was scary. Leave my favorite song alone. But kudos on the Elphaba costume; that’s something any theatre dork can appreciate.
In conclusion, this boy puts my level of Broadway fandom to shame, and really I’m okay with that.

N.E.R.D.’s “Everyone Nose” will not just be a one hit wonder about girls standing in line for the bathroom, based on the great songs on the new album. Nothing is a great step for N.E.R.D. and despite the title, this album will give music lovers a reaction that is far from nothing. Depending on the songs, you will either get up to dance or just tap your foot in a great mood. With collaborations with T.I. and Nelly Furtado, the songs “Party People” and “Hot-n-Fun” should definitely be getting some attention. Additionally, the song “Hypnotize U”, although slow, has a chorus with a sexy beat that might make it the best songs on his album.

Liu Wen has been a runway fixture since fall 2008. She walked all the major shows and has graced countless covers. Personally, I think she is stunning, and I’m not alone. Wen is one of the most successful Asian models since Jenny Shimizu, who broke down countless barriers by being a minority, short (5’6”) and openly gay.
In April, Wen landed her first cosmetic contract, with Estée Lauder. In model world, the cosmetic contract is the equivalent of a Pulitzer. Models get propelled into the mass market through billboards and department store advertising – basically, it’s a big deal.
Wen is the first Asian model to represent Estée Lauder. She will join the ranks of Elizabeth Hurley, Hilary Rhoda, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Carolyn Murphy. Check out her first ad:

I’m sure all you fashionistas know that faux fur is really in right now. I discovered my love for faux fur while shopping for my very own she-wolf halloween costume. I wanted to put my own outfit together so I searched for a faux fur vest and/or scarf. I found a thick faux fur scarf at Forever 21 that only cost me $14.50. I also purchased a faux fur earflap hat from H&M for about $10 and I absolutely adore it. Trendy fur doesn’t always have to cost a fortune. And you’ll love how warm faux fur accessories will keep you this winter!

The Lives of Christopher Chant is actually the second book in a quartet by Diana Wynne Jones, but I always read it before the real first book, Charmed Life. The first and second books are pretty much interchangeable. While I recommend the entire series, my heart remains with Christopher.
Christopher Chant, the main character, was born with nine lives. You’re thinking, “Hey, that’s pretty cool.” Or maybe, “Just like a kitty!” He lives in a world that consists of many different dimensions, and people have different versions of themselves in each one: nine dimensions, nine lives, none aware that the others exist. Christopher is special though. He was born only once, in one dimension, but those other eight lives still have to be accounted for, so he just gets to keep them. Still pretty cool, except he’s kind of oblivious to all this, so he ends up dying a half dozen times before he hits puberty.
The book follows Christopher as he learns about his unique abilities, practices magic, and finds out that he is to become the next Chrestomanci – a title given to a nine-lived person who walks between worlds and makes sure that reality doesn’t fall apart. Young Christopher doesn’t want any of it. He doesn’t acknowledge to himself or others that his misadventures in other worlds have led him into real trouble – maybe even the life-threatening kind. Will he survive to be the Chrestomanci? I’m not telling.
