The Hottest Chicks in Metal

I just got back from a Norma Jean show at Lost Horizon (also featuring Haste The Day, The Showdown, My Children, My Bride, and Oh, Sleeper).  While the music is not to my liking, although I do respect it cause every singer at the show had serious pipes, it was still fun to be around music (especially at Lost Horizon which is an awesome venue).  However, I was supposed to interview Norma Jean’s bassist Jake Schultz before his band took the stage.  After an e-mail from Norma Jean’s press guy basically saying he could get myself and a friend complimentary tickets and a twenty minute slot with Schultz, I figured I was in.  Well, I got to the venue and my name was not on the list.  Four hours later I am $16 poorer (I even had to bum $1 off my friend for entry and $2 off my roommate for water), and interviewless.  But! I do have Schultz’s cell phone number, so he can expect at least a few nasty calls.

That got me thinking about the interview I did do with an employee at REVOLVER magazine recently for my MAG 205 project.  I was at a loss for a Saturday blog post, but remembering REVOLVER and its “Hottest Chicks in Metal” issue, I got thinkin’ I might do my own.  Thus! I present you with my five hottest chicks in metal for 2008.

5) Candace Kucsulain of Walls of Jericho

The lead singer of Walls of Jericho has the looks and the attitude to match.  Check out that “Cat’s Meow” tattoo on her knuckles.  She looks like she can show you a good time and then tell you how bad you were at it.

4) Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil

The lead singer of Lacuna Coil has graced REVOLVER’s “Hottest Chicks in Metal” issue for the past few years.  The italian metallers have just, or are about to, (depending on where you live) release a DVD entitled Visual Karma.  Secretary sexy.

3) Maria Brink of In This Moment

The frontwoman of In This Moment has also been a familiar face in the pages of REVOLVER.  Aside from being featured in the “Hottest Chicks in Metal” issue, Brink just graced the cover as horror queen Carrie in the magazine’s most recent issue.  Scary hot.

2) Brody Dalle of The Distillers and Spinerette

The other half of Queens of the Stone Age’s/Eagles of Death Metal’s Josh Homme, Dalle has been keeping busy by making a baby and Spinnerette, her new project outside of punk outfit The Distillers.  She’s got the punk sex appeal down to a science and would probably still piss in your bushes.

1) Laura Nichol of Light This City

Although the (now disbanded) Light This City growler may not be the hottest in terms of outright looks, she’s got that whole “I can play video games with you too” kind of thing going on which makes her infinitely hotter.

I know, I know.  I’m leaving out a bunch (Lacey Moseley of Flyleaf has that whole damaged thing, Emma Anzai of Sick Puppies, Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy, Ashley Ellyllon of Abigail Williams, Sebastian Bach of Skid Row, Damnocracy, et al., etc., etc.).  It’ll be interesting to see, as time goes on, how many more females are fronting (or at least playing in) heavy music groups.
