Song o’ the Week: “ID Engager” by of Montreal

This week’s song of the week is the first single of the newest album by of Montreal, Skeletal Lamping. Of Montreal hails from Athens, Georgia and is the brain child of lead singer Kevin Barnes, aka Georgie Fruit. They named the band of Montreal after a terrible break up between Kevin and a woman from Montreal. This side note holds true to the very essence of the band as Barnes often takes very sentimental and personal subjects and scores them with outrageous psychedelia music. Though Pitchfork panned the album, this single is full of the same baccanalian fun of their last album, Hissing Fauna.

SyracuseYOU: Jake Couri

While most of Syracuse University was pounding back Keystones all summer, sophomore Jake Couri was busy launching his first clothing line. Couri’s level of ambition and optimism is inspiring, if unusual. He decided to launch the self-titled line this summer so he would not have to wait for the brand to develop after he graduates. His ultimate goal is to make wearable, visually pleasing art.

“Jake Couri” is a fifty-fifty collaboration between Couri and Jeri Glatter, his mother. Although Glatter may seem an unlikely business partner for a college-aged entrepreneur, Couri said they work well together and have a great collaborative dynamic. “When I’m working with her, it’s my work partner who happens to be my mom,” Couri said.

Have you ever logged on to Ticketmaster and have your jaw hit the keyboard after seeing the ticket price for one of your favorite bands? Well, I haven’t yet, but I do know ticket prices as a whole are on the rise. Despite a record $3.1 billion made in concert business this year, as reported online by Entertainment Weekly, ticket sales declined for the third year in a row. This means “the average ticket price rose $7 this year; a ticket for any of the top 100 tours would have set you back an average $57,” reports Entertainment Weekly.
