John Cassillo

With the election this coming Tuesday, both Jose and I figured we’d talk about the issues as a whole, leaving you with a parting shot, if you will, about each candidate, in the hopes that you can use this information provided to make a decision if you haven’t already.

What’s Up Down The Hill – October 31, 2008

October 31, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This guy is a complete TOOL!

Every once in a few years, college students are met with a blessing unlike anything more appropriate to their youth: Halloween happens to fall on a weekend.

Not that it matters if it’s on a Monday or a Wednesday, but let’s face it, binge drinking comes with responsibilities (such as crawling to your class in the morning, or trying not to dump your cell in the toilet). For me, the sole fact that Halloween is today, a Friday, makes it even more appealing.

Dog Escapes At Airport, Stupidity Ensues

"Uhh, tower, we've got an adorable problem here..."

“Uhh, tower, we’ve got an adorable problem here…”

Eight flights were delayed Saturday night at Logan International Airport while airport employees and State Police chased a poodle around the tarmac, The Boston Globe reports.

Sources guess that the poodle, named Choochy, escaped from her kennel while the plane was being unloaded. Employees quickly captured the tiny dog and returned her to her owners.

That's fucking scary...

Autumn is always pleasant – changing leaves, breezy weather (that belies an impending four months of tundra doom), discovering an overabundant number of ways to eat apples and…Halloween slasher films! I will shamelessly admit that I absolutely love horror movies. Whether they’re dark and macabre or just plain creepy, I will be deeply sidled in my uncomfortable theater seat for the whole bloodcurdling, gut-wrenching, cringe-inducing ride (admittedly with hands pressed to face and eyes warily peeking in between).

As of late, however, I’ve been rather unimpressed by this season’s crop of cinematic spookiness, so I have taken it upon myself to suggest five of my favorite flicks to rent for this notorious weekend! Get ready for chills and thrills and sleepless nights galore.

Cult School Musical

A smattering of cult flicks...

A smattering of cult flicks...

This is about a mainstream movie. A very mainstream movie. So mainstream that it may make some readers sick. So mainstream that I’m afraid to admit that I went on my free time and paid the price of admission to see it. If you keep up with film releases, you may have already guessed that this steaming pile of generic American entertainment I’m referring to is none other than…

Halloween: Animation Style

With the release of Saw 35…er 5, it is clear that recent scary movies are missing an important element: scariness. When did old, cantankerous cancer patients become the new ‘it’ villain? Give him a damn cigarette. No sequel(s) needed.

Wank Does Dublin

October 28, 2008 · 2 Comments

Want a fool-proof conversation starter? Wear a shirt with the words “Do you Jerk in private?” along the back in a foreign country known for its rowdy, drunken antics.

This is just one of the many things I learned when Liam McCabe, London blogger and fellow JERK, and I met up for a fabulous, drunken five days in Dublin, Ireland. We spent our days being somewhat educational by touring the Guinness Factory, finding historical bridges named after Liam, and exploring Dublin’s many cultural offerings. Then, after the requisite late afternoon nap, we spent each night exploring the heart and soul of Dublin… the bars. (more…)
